Service Description

Take a walk through Prague through places associated with the life of Václav Havel – playwright, dissident, president and one of the most prominent figures in modern Czech history. During the tour, you will get to know Havel not only as a politician, but above all as a person and a citizen of Prague. We will start our journey on Janáček Embankment near the house where Václav Havel lived for many years. From there, we will head to the Na zábradlí Theatre, where he started as a stagehand in his youth and later established himself as a playwright. We will remember his theatrical work, life with Olga Havel and the gradual path from art to public engagement and dissent. On the piazzetta of the National Theatre, we will see Havel’s symbolic heart and his characteristic signature. We will also stop at places associated with the Václav Havel Library and continue to Národní třída – a street that on November 17, 1989 became one of the symbolic places of the fall of the communist regime and the beginning of the Velvet Revolution. It was she who brought Václav Havel from the environment of dissent to the presidency in a few incredible weeks. But the tour will not only be about big politics and historical events. You will also get to know Havel's more personal and less formal face, his friends, favorite places and Prague pubs. We will end the walk at the legendary restaurant U Zlatého tygra. You will be told the story of a man whose life was unusually closely connected to Prague - from the theater backstage through communist repression and dissent to the Velvet Revolution and Prague Castle. And above all, places that you may normally walk past without knowing the stories behind them.
